It's a native Performance Manager for BMC Portal: it doesn't need to be installed on each monitored server. It doesn't rely on a PATROL Agent: it is agent-less. Once loaded into BMC Portal, you can check the hardware components of your servers from your Web browser through the Portal interface. The operators will be alerted as soon as a hardware failure is detected somewhere in your IT infrastructure.
It's greater and easier than any other hardware monitoring solution available on the market: with the same module, you can monitor the hardware of almost any server. Great server coverage and easy integration!

How It Works
BMC Performance Manager Express for Hardware is composed of a unified core monitoring engine and connectors that plug into platform-specific instrumentation software.
Upon startup, BMC Performance Manager Express for Hardware automatically detects the environment and protocols available on the monitored servers, connects to the available hardware information sources and starts the monitoring of the hardware components.
Required Software
Most server manufacturers provide a hardware instrumentation agent. This agent is very often the only software able to retrieve the server hardware configuration and give information about its availability. With these agents, the manufacturers usually provide a specific console that is able to show the data collected by the agents. While these monitoring solutions are accurate for the servers they are intended for, they require IT administrators to use specific technologies for each different hardware manufacturer.
In order to match the accuracy of manufacturer's own consoles, BMC Performance Manager Express for Hardware relies on the very same agents.
