Monitoring Studio is loaded as a standard KM for PATROL on the PATROL Agents. It provides a graphical user interface in the BMC PATROL Consoles that let you setup the monitoring of pretty much anything you want, including custom applications.

As you configure Monitoring Studio, icons are created in the BMC Performance Manager/PATROL Console to represent the monitoring of your custom application, for example.

• Monitor the base system elements your application relies on: processes (by name, command line, user), flat and log files (size, growth, security), directories (size, files inside, flows), Windows services, file systems, and more.
• Parse any information sources relating to your application: LOG files (multi-line, XML, time-stamped, very large files), databases (SQL queries), Web pages (forms), Windows event logs, SNMP agents (polling and trap listening), JMX-enabled applications, WMI queries, command-line results, Windows performance counters, and even other KM parameters!
• Search in these sources for the information you are looking for in order to detect failures: search for regular expressions, automatically acknowledge alarms, retrieve numbers and build graphs with alert thresholds.
• Trigger recovery or alert actions when an application failure is detected: trigger a PATROL event, send an E-mail, execute a recovery action, write to a LOG file or send a SNMP trap.
• Easy-to-use GUI, easy mass deployment and configuration.
