Enabling the Debug Mode

Home  Previous  Next

By default, Hardware Sentry sends only the most critical information, warning and error messages to the System Output Window of the PATROL Consoles. Most often, this information is accurate enough to ensure that Hardware Sentry is working properly.

If you encounter an issue and wish to report it to Sentry Software, you will be asked to enable the Debug Mode and provide the debug output to the Sentry Software support team.

To enable the debug mode:

1.Right-click the main Hardware icon > KM Commands > KM Settings > Debug...

2.Check the KM option to enable the standard debug mode

KMCmd_Debug

Check the Collection Hub option if requested by Sentry Support, or if Hardware Sentry KM for PATROL gets obvious wrong results from its queries

NoteThe Sentry Collection Hub is a component shared between all Sentry Software KMs for PATROL. This component is in charge of resource-intensive tasks and of reducing the impact of the monitoring solution on the managed systems.

3.Optionally, specify a directory (on the managed server) where the KM will create the debug files. If you leave this field empty, the debug content will be sent to the PATROL Console System Output Window. It is generally preferred to specify a directory location since the PATROL Console System Output Window may miss some important debug information

TipThe debug files are stored on the computer where the PATROL Agent is running, in the specified directory. Up to 3 files can be generated:
 - SEN_HW_debug_km_3181_<YYYY-mm-dd-HH-MM>.log, with the debug output of the KM
 - CollectionHub_debug_psl_3181_<YYYY-mm-dd-HH-MM>.log, with the PSL debug output of the Collection Hub
 - CollectionHub_debug_jar_3181_<YYYY-mm-dd-HH-MM>.log, with the Java debug output of the Collection Hub

4.Specify the maximum size of the debug file (10 MB, 50 MB, 100 MB, 500 MB or unlimited)

WarningIf you have opted for an unlimited debug file, pay specific attention to the file size. The debug output of Hardware Sentry may be very large if running for several days.

5.Check the Reinitialize Hardware Sentry option (optional)

6.Click OK.
